Dick Penny

Following graduation from Bath University in the middle 70s, Dick obtained his PhD during several years of research fellowship positions at the Newcastle University Medical School and at the Vrij University of Amsterdam.  He moved out of the academic environment to join IMP Ltd at its formation in the early 80s.

He has over 20 years of marketing and business development experience in the computer industry with senior Management positions at IMP (from small start-up through to IPO), at Sun Microsystems Inc, a $15bn turnover US IT manufacturer, and most recently with ESB Ltd where he is General Manager.

During his time at IMP, Dick had primary responsibility for the product marketing, public relations, business and sales development up to and including their public listing on the US NASDAQ market.  Following the acquisition of IMP by Sun Microsystems, he worked for several years as a Senior Project Manager responsible for introducing specialised computers into the developing telecom markets throughout Europe and the Far East.

Dick has an established consultancy business called Technology Services that specialises in the implementation of sales, marketing and product strategies for science and technology based SME companies.  He also serves on the Northern Enterprise Seed Capital Fund investment panel.
